Possibilities and methods for developing common terminology in modern Turkic languages

Turkic language nowadays is represented on a wide geography as different languages and dialects. At the end of XIXth century with the disintegration of Soviet Union reviving the historical unity of Turkic people and as a result efforts to find common language for Turks gained great importance. There are two main solutions represented to solve the problem of common Turkic language. One of them is to create an artificial language which could be understandable by all Turkic people. The second one is to use one existing Turkic language as a common language for all Turkic people. This research proposes its own way to common language through developing common terminology for Turkic languages. The purpose of the study is to investigate the possibilities and methods for developing common terminology, to find out common patterns in terminology of Turkic languages and determine principle to be followed while developing common Turkic terminology. To achieve this goal five Turkic languages were chosen (Turkish, Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Tatar and Uzbek languages). Selected 300 basic concepts in two scientific fields were translated into these five Turkic languages. This material gives ideas about methods in developing terminology common for all selected languages. As a result, it was determined that using common elements such as common roots, affixes and syntax structures will contribute into developing common Turkic terminology.
