The role and importance of Devrim Erbil in contemporary Turkish painting art

ABSTRACT THE ROLE AND IMPORTANCE OF DEVRİM ERBİL IN CONTEMPORARY TURKISH PAINTING ART HAYLAMAZ, Ayşe Master's Thesis, Painting Main Art Branch Advisor: Asst. Prof. Pınar YAZKAÇ July, 2014, 150 pages This research includes the subject, "The Role and Importance of Devrim Erbil In Contemporary Turkish Painting Art". In this research, the historical progress of Contemporary Turkish Painting Art, as well as the life of Devrim Erbil and his approach to the painting art, are mentioned. The research was figured on surveillance method. The research was carried out with the semi-constructional interview tecnique that was one of the qualitative research methods based on this model. In the the semi-constructional interview with Devrim Erbil, thirteen questions were asked to the painter. These questions were grouped such as the life, education, working style of the painter, his approach to the painting, his plans for future and his advices. According to the results gatherded in the research, Devrim Erbil, who is one of today's active painters, with his characteristics such as the originality and productivity in his approach to the painting, the insistence on his themes and style, is a painter having an important role in Contemporary Turkish Painting Art. It was seen that İstanbul University Fine Arts Academy had an important role in forming Devrim Erbil's approach to the painting. His teachers in that term and the atmosphere in the workshop were studied. The examples of his paintings, as well as his works such as press, carpet painting, marquetry, plexi, ceramic, mosaic, stained glass were given. In his those works, it was seen that there were the plastic components and principles such as line and rhythm on which the painter insisted. Usually, while there are miniature effects on his images painted by a faraway point of view, the painter forms his own style in Turkish Painting Art by combining conventionalism and modernism.
