Figure based abstractions in contemporary Turkish painting

In this thesis, the development process of figure-based abstractions in contemporary Turkish painting art was researched, especially after the second half of the century with the period of the Turkish Republic. The historical information obtained by scanning the literature has been tried to be explained by presenting the pictures of various works of art. It is seen that one of the most basic tools chosen as the subject of illustration throughout the history of art is the figure. The figure subject, which was at the center of the painting and tried to be depicted in a very realistic style, has taken a completely different form throughout the years and appeared with abstraction styles. In this context, various movements in the plastic arts have progressed chronologically and as a result of these advances, contemporary Turkish painting art has entered a continuous development process by forming different perspectives in the light of new views, primarily with the Westernization movements. For this purpose, in our study, the representatives of the figure-based abstraction style in contemporary Turkish painting and the various groups and movements to which these representatives adhere are mentioned. In the study, within the framework of figure-based abstractions in Turkish painting, a work-text analysis was carried out on the works of Özden ERBİL İBİTÜRK, and the theoretical basis of the relationship of these works with figure-based abstractions in contemporary Turkish painting was evaluated. On the other hand, our study is also important in terms of allowing evaluations on the reflections of the effects of figure-based abstractions in contemporary Turkish painting on the works of young painters, through the relationship of today's contemporary Turkish painting art with its past, in line with the targeted results.
