Examination of figurative trends in contemporary Turkish ceramic art from plastic perspective

The figure has been one of the most important subjects of the art of painting and sculpture since human existence. Therefore, the figure has been taken as the subject of many fields in the period from prehistory to the modern period. In the history of art, figures are extremely rich in terms of the variety of events that are told or put forward. These figures turned into bowls used to meet daily needs, a protection item placed in the corner of each house to protect themselves from evil forces, or figurines made of blessings. One of the branches of art that treats the figure as a subject is ceramic art. Certainly, ceramics means toprak terra cotta cooked at very high temperature gerekirse. Animal and human figures were intensively worked on the ceramics which have a long history as much as the history of civilization. The processing of these figures continued in contemporary ceramic art. So much so that the expression of these figures played an important role in the development of contemporary ceramic art. After the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey has accelerated the development of contemporary ceramic art. The ceramic artists who were sent abroad for education and the schools opened in western style had an important role in this development. In addition, the contribution of many ceramic artists who are influenced by various art movements to contemporary Turkish ceramic art cannot be denied. In this study, the usage of figures in ceramic art is briefly explained in terms of historical periods and the forms and styles of contemporary Turkish ceramic artists are evaluated.
