Özet (EN)
To use a well-known expression that is also used today, I wonder if all Arabs were Bedouin and really ignorant of civilisation. Were they unaware of the developments in the world? Did they live in a very long period of darkness before and after Islam, which we can call a period of Jahiliyyah without any contribution to humanity? Were the Arab people, who were merchants, unable to follow the world? Why did the great civilisations founded by the Arabs have no value in the eyes of scientists and researchers? We will try to answer these questions in this study. For the first time in history, writing was found and presented to the service of humanity by the Sumerians, who were founded in Southern Iraq. On the other hand, the writing system used as the second writing system after cuneiform is the Hieroglyphic writing found in Egypt. Again, the Latin letters used by the Western world today were invented by the Phoenicians founded in Lebanon, a Middle Eastern society. The Greeks, who were very skilful in maritime trade like the Phoenicians, learnt and further developed writing during this commercial relationship. The Romans, who were culturally influenced by the Greeks, learnt this alphabet and created the Latin Alphabet used today. As a result of the discovery of the first version of the number system we use today by the Indians and its development by the Muslims, it was carried to Europe and we are still able to use it. Likewise, paper is a gift of the Chinese, a Far Eastern civilisation, to humanity. Thanks to the work of Uighur Turks and Muslim Arabs, many innovations such as paper, printing press, compass and gunpowder were carried to Europe. These innovations came to the West, and then from there this technology spread all over the world. To attribute these developments to only one society is a great injustice to other world civilisations. The contributions of ancient civilisations such as China, India, Mesopotamia, Egypt and America to the world are too great to be denied. In this study, we have tried to dwell on this problematic idea, which continues to be centred on the West today.
