A psychoanalytic analysis of Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı stories

The art of storytelling requires texts to be written at a certain aesthetic level. In particular, the narrator's point of view and interpretation, the way people speak, chains of events, time-space elements must be integrated with both the narrative structure and the message to be conveyed. Cahit SıtkıTarancı announces himself to the literary world with his poetics. Subject to the understanding of pure poetry, he is concerned with perfection in form and style patterns. In his storytelling, which took place at the same time, the level/form of fiction and narrative is seen with the imaginative language and narrative level/form depending on the individual sensibility he brought from poetry. While the unconscious desires and needs of the narrative characters are revealed in the plot, the themes of complex/spiritual confusion that interfere with their conscious approaches are determined. It is observed that other structural elements complement the self-centered approach. Psychoanalytic theory contains human-specific universal knowledge of archetypes belonging to the collective unconscious. The emotional states that living beings have been carrying since their creation and their externalizations are explained as 'primordial images/first forms of expression'. Based on this starting point, the study aims to identify the manifestations of the archetypes that describe the creation nature of the individual in Tarancı's stories. Cahit SıtkıTarancı's stories were analyzed within the scope of the themes of psychoanalytic theory. Thirty-six of the eighty-two stories in the books Yağmurdan Sonra Güneş and Gün Eksilmesin Penceremden were analyzed in the context of archetypes. In Chapter One, Psychoanalytic Theories and Studies, the subheadings Sigmund Freud and Psychoanalysis, Alfred Adler and Individual Psychology, Carl Gustav Jung and Analytical Psychology were opened. The emergence of findings on the psyche and the processes of their transformation into theories were explained. In Chapter Two, Cahit SıtkıTarancı's Life, Literary Personality and Works, the author's efforts to construct his literary identity in his childhood, starting from his family, and the world of feeling behind his works are explained. In the third chapter, The Psychoanalytic Analysis of Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı's Stories, the relationship between name and content, plot, point of view and narrator, time, space, and cast of characters in eighty-two stories were first evaluated. Then, nine stories in the mother archetype, three in the shadow archetype, fourteen in the anima archetype, three in the animus archetype, three in the persona archetype, one in the rebirth archetype and three in the self archetype were analyzed. In particular, it was determined that the narrative characters were caught up in feelings of alienation, loneliness and hopelessness as a result of the transformation of feelings of inadequacy/inferiority at the lower threshold into tendencies, and that they moved away from the phenomenon of selfrealization with mental confusion.
