A psychological view of Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı's poems about death

ABSTRACT A PSYCHOLOGICAL VIEW OF CAHIT SITKI TARANCI'S POEMS ABOUT DEATH YETİŞTİREN, Nuri Master Thesis, Department of the Turkish Language and Literature Supervisor : Asst. Prof. Abdullah ACEHAN July, 2014, 169 pages Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı (1910-1956) is one of the most important poets of Republic Period Turkish Literature. Especially, he is known by his poems with "Otuz Beş Yaş" and he is called "death poet". Publishing his first poems in ''Muhit'' magazine in his high school period encourages him and he give his first poem book "Ömrümde Sükut" as a present for literature world. After his first book, "Otuz Beş Yaş" (1946), "Düşten Güzel" (1952) and "Sonrası"(1957) after his death are published. There are a lot of analyzes about the poem read admiringly both in his current period and now and it goes on. Because Cahit Sıtkı and his Works accomplish to focus on views of men of letters with his domination of Turkish Literature and sincere style in emotions and handle of classical themes originally. Although he emphasizes the theme of death we have an another view about death in a psychological way. His poems about death are analyzed by both Ramazan Korkmaz for 43 times and by Enver Okur for 62 times. We consider the same poems in these works and we determine that his 21 other poems in the theme of death. Nuran Özlük and Hasan Sazyek analyze his some poems and they do not find the theme of death in these works so we do not evaluate them. The present study that we psychologically evaluated the poems on death of Cahit Sıtkı consisted of four chapters: In first part official life of Tarancı was described. The second part consisted of the cultural life of poet. The understanding of art, thinking about poet and poetry and artworks of poet handled detailed. In addition, tellings of other artists about Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı were provided under a seperate heading. In the third part, the theme of death is analyzed in terms of positivism, materialism and religious and is emphasized the views of representatives of these aspects. In the fourth part literature and psychology are handled in both same and different ways same ways as a discipline. The theme of death is mentioned briefly again in the literature. In addition, his poems abouth death are analysed in a psychological way and the attitude of poet on the theme of death is emphasized.
