Examination of employee motivation levels: A research in a public institution

This study aims to investigate the motivation levels of public sector employees in relation to demographic variables.. The sample consists of 314 public employees working in a governmental institution operating in the province of Adana, Turkey. A structured questionnaire was utilized as the data collection instrument. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 statistical package program. To assess the construct validity of the scale employed in the study, confirmatory factor analysis was conducted. In order to test the hypotheses, independent samples t-tests and one-way ANOVA analyses were performed.The findings revealed that participants' levels of commitment to the public interest significantly varied according to age and length of service, while their levels of social responsibility differed by gender, age, and length of service. Male employees demonstrated higher levels of social responsibility than their female counterparts. Employees aged between 39 and 45 showed greater commitment to the public interest compared to those aged 25 to 31, while those aged 46 and above exhibited higher levels of commitment than those in the 25–31 and 32–38 age groups. Furthermore, it was observed that employees aged 46 and above reported higher levels of social responsibility than those aged 25–31 and 39–45. Employees with 16 or more years of service demonstrated significantly greater commitment to the public interest and social responsibility than those with 11–15 years of service. Lastly, it was observed that employees' levels of public sensitivity were higher than their levels of commitment to the public interest and social responsibility.
