The effect of working environment on job satisfaction and separation intent of nurses

Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between nurses' perception of work environment and job satisfaction and intention to quit. Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 870 nurses between May-August 2018 in Antalya Training and Research Hospital of Health Sciences University. "Descriptive Information Form", i Intention to Leave Questionnaire "," Nursing Work Index-Nursing Work Environment Assessment Scale Değerlendirme and "Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale" were used to collect the data. Number, percentage, average, Regression analysis, Correlation analysis and Cronbach Alpha tests were used for data analysis. Results: The average of nurses' perceptions of working environment was 2.23 ± 0.52, the general satisfaction average was 2.66 ± 0.80, 67.1% had low intention to leave nursing, 63.9% had low intention to leave. The working environment was positive with job satisfaction, high level (r =, 720, p =, 000), negative low between nursing intention, low level (r = -, 394, p =, 000), negative low, level with intention to leave (r = -, 409, p =, 000). It was found that the nurses' perceptions of the work environment explained 51.9% overall job satisfaction, 16.7% intention to quit and 15.5% intention to quit nursing. Conclusion: In the study, it was found that nurses perceived the work environment as positive, moderate job satisfaction and low intention to leave. In addition, it was determined that nurses' perceptions of work environment affect job satisfaction and intention to quit.
