Investigation of glass lathes and possibbilities of artistic use

Scientific and technological developments have progressed in parallel with developments in the field of glass for centuries. Glass turning became popular in the 20th century as an application area within the scope of flame shaping techniques and especially used in the production of laboratory materials and therefore also called scientific glass blowing. It is an application area that has not become widespread due to reasons such as the lack of a deep-rooted historical background, the widespread use of applications in a commercial context in terms of competence and quantity, and the late organization of the education and training of the technique, but today there are indications that these limitations have been overcome. However, due to the negativities mentioned above, the number of written sources in the literature is quite low. Apart from scientific blowing, it is used in industrial products and rarely in the production of artistic works. There are training programs in some countries, especially in Germany. In this thesis, it is aimed to popularize the use of glass lathe and to provide a source to guide the literature. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, the second chapter is the flame forming technique and glass lathes. In this chapter, the history of flame forming, the history of glass lathes, industrial and educational developments are explained. The third chapter, under the title of glass lathes, covers the working principles of glass lathes and the use of glass lathes in the field of art and design. The fourth chapter includes personal applications.
