Halvetism in Çankırı

The sects that came into being as a result of the spread of Sufism have played an active role in the material and spiritual education of the people with structures such as tekkes, foundations, lodges, madrasas, imarethanes that they have established. One of these sects is the Halvetiyye sect. The Khalwatiyya sect was founded by Umar al-Khalwati (d.800/1397-1398) is one of the most widespread sects of the Islamic world, which appeals to people of all classes and groups. The separation of many branches and branches in the history of Sufism has also been characterized as a "cult factory" due to the fact that the sect is more than other sects in terms of the number of tekkes, and has influenced societies in the Islamic world and in every city of Anatolia with the spiritual legacies they have left. Religious and sufi life in Çankırı, a city of Anatolia, dates back to a very old time. This city has been in a central position in terms of faith and culture. Many sufis have grown up in this city, and these individuals have also become influential in society with their thoughts and actions. The main purpose of this thesis is to investigate and study the Halveti elders and people of hearts who have lived or influenced this region in the Çankırı region. In accordance with this purpose, the general characteristics of the Halvetiyye sect and its course, antecedents and tekkes from the date of its inception to the present day, in particular Çankırı, have been tried to be revealed in this research. Topics such as the Halvetiyye sect, the famous Halvetiyye sheikhs, Halvetiyye dergahs and the effects of Halvetiyye in Çankırı in particular constitute the main structure of the study.
