Abstract (EN)
SUMMARY The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of some factors between global self-concept and vocational self-concept agreement levels of sport management candidates. The sample participants were 144 college students in the Sport Management Programme in Physical Education and Sport at Celal Bayar University, during the 2002 - 2003 academic year. This study was based on Super's Vocational Self- Concept Theory. "Identifying Oneself with Adjectives Check Lists" and "Identifying Vocation with Adjectives Check Lists" were used to test the agreement levels between global self - concept and vocational self- concept. Both research tests were adapted by Öner (1982) for this study. " Personal Knowledge Form" was used to collected the personal characteristics, educational background, economic characteristics and occupational expectations of the student's families. Adjective lists were given to the students under two directives. The first one was that the students were asked how appropriate the adjectives were to themselves. The second directive asked the students to indicate how necessary the adjectives for sport management occupation were. The independent variables were analyzed through Cohen's Kappa by using SPSS 10 statistical software program and Microsoft Excel. In general, results indicated that the student agreement levels between global self-concept and vocational self-concept was significantly different. In terms of high school success, perceptions of lesson difficulty, willingness to pursue sport management as a career and the status of sport management in society In addition no gender differences were found in terms of independent variables. However, were partial findings for grade levels. Lastly, occupational expectations of student's families did not produce significant difference.
