Abstract (EN)

Celâleddin Ezine is one of the writers of the Republican period. He was born on April 29, 1899 in Chios and died on January 6, 1972 in Istanbul. He was the first child of Mehmet Memduh Bey and Mediha Hanım. Because of his mother Mrs. Mediha, he was also the grandson of the poet Mehmet Nazım Pasha and the cousin of Nazım Hikmet. Celâleddin Ezine, a member of a family with a deep-rooted culture, was sent to Germany for education by his family some time after he enrolled in Galatasaray High School. It is known that he started his literary life by writing in German in Germany where he went for education. He worked as a clerk at the Bank of Thessaloniki for a while, but then he established his own printing house and engaged in writing. He was closely interested in subjects such as trade, economy, politics, literature and art. However, his interest in theater goes beyond these. His first theater work published in 1938 was Jacob and the Others. After this work, which is a dream play, he published Bir Misafir Geldi, Amerika Mektupları and Harp İçinde Avrupa, respectively. In addition to these four works, Celâleddin Ezine published literary and political articles in various newspapers and magazines such as Cumhuriyet, Tasviri Efkâr, Tanin, Hergün, Hürses, Gün, Yeni Sabah and İnsan, and translated from German and French into Turkish. He also pioneered the publication of Hamle magazine together with Hasan Tanrıkut. Between August and December 1940, only five issues were published in this magazine, whose aim was to train an international writer. He also published two stories, "Anafartalar" and "Memo'nun Pasaportu", and a poem titled "Hazret-i Mevlâna". In 1941, with his article titled "Hamlet, Prince of Denmark", he caused the Hamlet debates to begin. Celâleddin Ezine, who was frequently mentioned in literary circles in the 1940s, is still an important name for our literature today, although he lost his visibility after these years. For this reason, the aim of this study is to reveal Celâleddin Ezine in all aspects. For this purpose, the study is divided into three main sections: the author's life, his works and his understanding of art.
