Abstract (EN)
In this thesis study, the dynamic behaviour of a cable-stayed pedestrian bridge located in Istanbul is comprehensively investigated through both analytical modelling and experimental measurements. Based on the field observations, the geometry of the bridge, the dimensions of the structural elements, and the cross-section properties were identified, and a finite element model was created. To assess the dynamic characteristics, the natural frequencies and mode shapes were obtained by modal analysis, while the time-dependent responses of the structure were investigated by time history analysis, using real earthquake ground motion accelerations. In the experimental studies, ambient acceleration data were collected in three axes using accelerometers placed at specific points on the bridge deck. Operational modal analysis (OMA) techniques were employed, and dominant frequency components were extracted using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). The comparison between the analytical and experimental results necessitated a model update process; within this scope, the two main parameters of the analytical model, mass and stiffness, were readjusted. The natural frequency results of the updated model's fundamental modes were observed to be closer to experimental data. This study delivers a calibrated and validated finite element model of the structure, and this model is intended to contribute to future studies involving the seismic analysis, vibration assessment, and structural health monitoring of similar bridge structures.
