Abstract (EN)

Ensuring the stability of structures under the effect of horizontal load and without any damage to the structural element, it is desirable to damage to such elements. For this purpose, many studies on metallic dampers have been carried out in the literature and the effectiveness of the developed metallic dampers has been examined. These studies are generally developed for the junction areas of steel braces and beams. However, the number of curvilinear or elbow type dampers developed for column-beam junction areas is very limited when it is desired to use frame opening. In this study, it is aimed to develop curvilinear shaped metallic dampers that will enable the effective use of frame spaces in structures, instead of the metallic dampers available in the literature. Numerical models of different types of curvilinear shaped metallic dampers have been developed and their efficiency has been investigated. In addition, the designed curvilinear metallic dampers were compared with the performances of the frame and steel brace system. A curvilinear metallic damper, which provides the most appropriate energy damping under horizontal loads, has been determined. It has been observed that the curvilinear metallic dampers developed within the scope of the thesis increase the horizontal load-carrying capacity of the steel frame and consume more energy.
