The relationship between spiritual well-being and preoperative anxiety in surgical patients

The study was conducted in a descriptive and correlational design to determine the spiritual well-being levels and preoperative anxiety levels of patients undergoing surgical operations and to identify the relationship between them. The study population consisted of patients who will undergo surgery at Konya City Hospital. The study sample consisted of 300 patients scheduled to undergo surgery in surgical clinics (ear nose throat surgery, brain and neurosurgery, gynecological surgery, eye surgery, thoracic surgery, urology, cardiovascular surgery) between September and December 2024. The study data were collected using the Introductory Information Form, ThreeFactor Spiritual Well-being Scale, and Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety Scale. The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS 22 and AMOS 22 package programs. The total Spiritual Well-being Scale score of the patients in the study was 135.35±10.27, and the total Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Knowledge Scale score was 14.59±10.27. A negative moderate correlation (r=-0.446; p<0.05) was found between the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Knowledge Scale and the Spiritual Wellbeing Scales of surgical patients before surgery.
