Özet (EN)
Essential oils are volatile, strongly aromatic and oily mixtures which are obtained by plant or vegetable droplets, obtained by distillation of water or water vapor, but which are liquid at room temperature, but sometimes can be solid. Essential oils have natural antibiofilm effects. Alcohols in the composition of essential oils are bactericidal rather than bacteriostatic activity against vegetative cells. Aldehydes have strong antibiotic activity because of their strong electronegativity. Electronegative compounds inhibit the growth of microorganisms by reacting with vital compulsive compounds such as proteins and nucleic acids and prevent biofilm formation. The aim of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial and antibiofilm effects of Ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata), Arbutus andrachne, Cedrus atlantica, Liquidambar orientalis, Bergamot (Citrus bergamia), Jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum) essential oils on gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus ATCC (29213) and gram-negative Escherichia coli ATCC (25922) andEscherichia coli ATCC (35200)bacterial strains. It was found that the highest antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity was obtained by Jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum) and Ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata) essential oils. These essential oils, heva the potential to offer alternative solutions in the treatment of infectious diseases.
