Abstract (EN)

Physical And Mechanical Properties Of Impregrated Alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertn. subsp. barbata (C.A.Mey.) Yalt) Wood In this study, Physical and mechanical properties of impregnated black or common alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertn. subsp. barbata (C.AMey.) Yahy wood were investigated. First of all, some technological properties of wood-polymer composites made from alder wood were investigated. Three different monomers styrene, methyl methacrylate and styrene/methyl methacrylate (70/30) mixture and two loading levels were used in preparation of wood-polymer composites. Of physical properties; oven-dried specific gravity, ratio of water uptake, water repellent effectiveness and from mechanical properties; compression strength parallel to the grain were determined. Full loading applications has given the best results in all monomer. Oven dried specific gravity, water repellent effectiveness and, compression strength parallel to the grain were found between 0.710- 0.950 gr/cm3, 39.45-85.78 % and 338.78-645.13 kp/cm2 respectively. In addition, alder wood was impregnated with some boron compounds, water repellents, natural tannins and their combinations. Results indicated that application of double impregnation process with boron compounds decreased the negative effects of water repellents on wood flammability. On the other hand, combining of natural tannins and boron compounds restricted the detrimental effects of natural tannins on combustion of wood. Phosphoric acid gave the best fire reterdancy results.
