Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to evaluate the difficulties specific to game genres in game localization as a specialized translation subgenre. Game localization is growing rapidly as an interesting field and has an important share in the translation world. However, software localization has its own challenges and subtleties. Like software localization, game localization is shaped by adapting the language to software features and by the knowledge that the usage area will be found in multiple environments. On the other hand, game localization has certain features that other computer software does not. In this respect, it may contain different difficulties than software localization and may require different approaches. Translators working in the field of game localization may also need to be familiar with the differences specific to the field of game localization, in addition to software localization knowledge and experience. Although it differs as a general area, the game localization can also differ significantly according to the game type. The gaming industry is constantly evolving as one of the results of digitization. One of the most important factors that ensures that the games/products produced in this direction make a profit worldwide and reach many players is the localization of the games in the most appropriate way according to the buyer audience. The game world is a very wide area and there are various types such as FPS, TPS, RPG, MMORPG etc. In the study, various difficulties and features that translators may encounter in line with the most popular and general game categories accepted in the game world such as Role-Playing Games, Action Games, Simulation Games and Strategy Games will be examined and compared within the scope of Newmark's Cultural Equivalence Theory, and it will be revealed whether there are any difficulties in terms of localization between these genres.
