Evaluation of citotoxic activity of walnut (Juglans regia L.) milk on various cancer cells with antimicrobial, antioxidant and prebiotic activity

Abstract (EN)
Walnut (Juglans regia L.) is one of our frequently consumed food sources and is known to be very important for human health. Today, it's many functional properties thought to be play role in such cases as the protection of the health of the human brain and learning, cholesterol oxidation, the regulation of chronic high blood pressure, reduction of contractions and cramps in the vessels, the mechanism of carcinogenesis, infectious disease factors, atopic asthma, immune system and nervous system are being investigated. A myriad of studies are being carried out on cancer, one of the most common diseases of our age. Cancer is a genetic disease that occurs as a result of epigenetic changes or mutations in genes controlling functional functions in the cell. In this study, walnut (Juglans regia L.) grown in Oğuzlar district of Çorum was used. It was aimed to investigate the antitumoral and proliferative effects of different concentrations of milk obtained from walnuts on breast carcinoma (MCF-7), hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG-2) and healthy mouse fibroblast (L929) cell lines. Besides, it was aimed to reveal some biological activities of walnut milk in the study. According to the data obtained in our study, some concentrations of walnut (Juglans regia L.) milk have a proliferative effect in L929 and MCF-7 cell lines in 24 hours, while it has a proliferative effect at 500 and 250 µg/ml concentrations in HepG-2 cell lines, while it found to have cytotoxic activity at other concentrations. In L929, MCF-7 and HepG-2 cell lines, cytotoxic activity was detected at all concentrations except 500 µg/ml after 48 hours of incubation. In biological activity studies, no inhibition activity was detected on the test microorganisms used in the experiments. In prebiotic studies, a proliferative effect was detected on L. rhamnosus ATCC 53103 and L. reuteri DSMZ 17938 strains. In the antioxidant activity determination, the antioxidant activity of walnut (Juglans regia L.) milk was determined as 8.89 mg/ml, while the total antioxidant amount (TAS) was determined as 1.9 mmol/L. In our study, it was determined that different concentrations of walnut milk had cytotoxic and prebiotic activity and some antioxidant activity. It is thought that different concentrations of walnut milk may be effective in inhibiting some cancer cells, but more research is needed and it may play a supportive role in body defence thanks to its antioxidant and prebiotic activity.
