Abstract (EN)
Environmental issues arising from the production and consumption activities of humans are threaten the future of the Earth. Water, air and soil pollution, climate change, depletion of natural resources, deforestation, disappearance of endemic animal and plant species are examples of the environmental issues experienced. One of the measures to be taken against environmental issues is to create environmental awareness in humans. The hypothesis of the research is that environmental movements are effective in the creation of environmental awareness. In this regard, by establishing a theoretical framework on environmental awareness and environmental movements, the idea was tested through a field study conducted in the Amasra district of Bartın. Critical literature review method was used in forming the theoretical part of the thesis, and the survey method was used in the field research conducted in Bartın-Amasra. The findings suggest that the rate of participation in the environmental movement is 61.25%. Furthermore, significant differences were found that the environmental movements against the coal fired power plant positively affected the research participants' attitudes towards the environment.
