Agricultural activities in Ceyhan district: Problems and solution proposals

Today, we encounter agriculture areas as the limited areas where human and economic activities become intensified, usage types and demands gradually become diversified and increase in number. This study addresses the agricultural activities and problems and solution suggestions in relation to these activities in Ceyhan district of Adana province, which is ranked the first among the areas having the highest agricultural production potential in our country. In the research, natural, human and economic factors, which are effective in the implementation of agricultural activities, were assessed as a whole. Within this scope, the agricultural activities implemented in Ceyhan district and the problems in relation to these activities were addressed under a geographical perspective. The relationship between spatial usages and the natural relationship was not neglected and the relationship between natural environmental conditions and agricultural activities was analyzed. Besides that, the human factor, which makes use of the natural environment potential, takes decisions about spatial usage and directs land usages, was also addressed under the titles of population and settlement in line with its effects on agricultural activities. Overall land usage condition in Ceyhan district on these bases and the place and importance of the agricultural activities in these usages were revealed. In the field of research, agricultural activities and problems and solution suggestions in relation to these activities were dealt with in detail. It was observed that agricultural activities are maintained in almost all parts of the field, and the usage intensity regarding these activities increased in the town center and surroundings where population increased. The field of research is a very important agricultural production center where vegetative production process is intensely continued in our country due to its natural environment potential. Besides that, there are also both natural and human based problems that emerged in this process. The study addresses those problems and deals with the solution suggestions in relation to them. Being one of the agricultural areas, which are natural and limited sources, and specifically one of the most important vegetative production centers in our country, Ceyhan plain needs a sustainable usage within the framework of protection - usage balance.
