The concept of victim in Criminal Law, Victim Rights and Protection of the Victim from Secondary Victimization

The main approach in this thesis titled The Concept of Victim in Criminal Law, Victim Rights and Protection of the Victim from Secondary Victimization is to emphasize the course of actions to support and to protect the victim from secondary victimization and to make suggestions in terms of criminal procedure. In order to achieve this, the subject is discussed in three parts. In the first part, the concept of victim is discussed. The content of the concept is examined and compared with similar concepts. In the second part, the victim's expectations from the criminal procedure, the principles of approaching the victim, the role, place and rights of the victim in the criminal procedure are examined. The secondary victimization of the victim is mostly caused by the process of taking a statement. For this reason, the issue of taking the statement of the victim has been specially examined. During this examination, the secondary victimization caused by taking statement and the course of action to prevent this has been discussed. In the third chapter, the secondary victimization caused by the judgment procedures is examined. International and national victim support systems in Europe have been examined in order to form the basis for the system to be proposed for the prevention of secondary victimization. In order to protect the victim at the trial phase and to prevent secondary victimization, it has been recommended that, at all stages of the trial, the victim should benefit from the legal assistance of a lawyer and most importantly, the service provided with a case management approach by an expert that can be called as a victim support specialist.
