Disabled prisoners as a disadvantaged group in prisons and their problems

The number of disabled people in the world and in Turkey is too high to be underestimated. Disabled people, who also exist in prisons, have different needs compared to non-disabled prisoners. These needs should be determined and necessary measures should be taken. The fact that prisoners are kept in conditions that will adversely affect both their health and psychology, and that they cannot access the things they need, lead to severe grievances. Necessary studies should be carried out within the responsibilities of the necessary institutions and organizations in order to prevent the grievances that are or may occur. With this study, it is aimed to determine the physical, health, social, educational and economic problems that disabled prisoners have experienced in penitentiary institutions, and to be a guide in solving these problems by examining the relevant national and international legislation and laws. Existing academic literature, reports and statistics prepared by various institutions on the subject in Turkey were used. Since the main data source of the research is secondary data sources and reports, it was carried out with document analysis pattern, which is one of the qualitative research methods.
