Abstract (EN)
Shell - tube heat exchanger designs are performed by KERN, BELL-DELAWARE methods. With the development of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, heat exchangers can be also designed with the help of CFD. In this thesis, a small size shell - tube type heat exchanger was designed. Single shell - tube passage is used. Leakage effects have been neglected. This thesis focuses on the shell side only. Shell side heat transfer coefficient and flow properties were investigated. CFD analysis were performed to determine the pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient by using different flow velocity values, turbulence models, baffle types, baffle cuts and numerical results obtained for single baffle were compared with KERN analytical method results.
