Chinese exceptionalism: A conceptual approach to the peaceful rise of China

In the present era of global politics, discerning the prospective trajectory of world affairs necessitates an inevitable imperative to intricately consider the evolution and metamorphosis of Asia. Within this contextual ambit, the envisioning of a global order by China, endowed as a rising power, assumes a cardinal import. Elucidating China's conceptualization of this global schema, its distinct positioning of itself as an exceptional entity therein, its explication of interrelations with other actors, and its perspective on the universality phenomenon, emerge as imperative undertakings. Amid the escalating discourse within the academic literature regarding the evolving contours of the emerging global order, this thesis endeavors to emphasize on the facets that render China increasingly exceptional, elucidating how China's praxis resonates across diverse domains. The study brings lucidity to the expansive literature on exceptionalism, offering insights into how China's narrative of exceptionalism, which encapsulates assertions of differentiation from the "others," intersects with its narrative of peaceful rise and development. In line with this trajectory, the study has been constructed through the application of a qualitative research methodology, drawing upon secondary sources, including but not limited to academic literature, government reports, and news articles. Within the study, the discourse of China's high-ranking officials regarding the paradigm of peaceful rise is subjected to analysis, encompassing examinations of prominent articulations such as "harmonious society" and "shared future for humanity." The investigation delves into the evolving and advancing rhetoric pertaining to Chinese exceptionalism, thereby contributing to an exploration of its shifting and burgeoning contributions.
