Özet (EN)
About %70 of the population in Djibouti resides in urban areas, while the remaining %30 lives in rural areas. Due to limited arable land, agricultural activities in the country predominantly rely on livestock grazing. Improving access to water resources is a key priority for enhancing the economic needs and livestock production of rural communities. Groundwater sources are heavily utilized. Therefore authorities need to focus more on collecting surface water to transform this situation into an advantage. The current arable land in the Republic of Djibouti accounts for only one percent of its total land area. This area, which is used for agricultural activities, corresponds to about 600 hectares. In this limited area, production can meet only 10% of the needs of the country's population. Consequently, Djibouti faces constraints in its agricultural resources due to various inhibiting factors, primarily geographical conditions. Agriculture serves as a strategic activity for both food security and national sovereignty, as well as a source of employment and wealth. Climate change caused by global warming and this degree of intensification of droughts affect the global food trade and the global food crisis. In this context, Djibouti needs to take measures to improve its agriculture and establish food storage facilities to prepare for potential global crises. In Djibouti, where the majority of the population is affected by poverty, it is crucial to establish plans for potential food crises. Since the timing of a new outbreak, the onset of the next war, or the emergence of a new crisis is unknown, every necessary measure should be taken to enhance food supply. Preventing famines and other disasters that lead to the loss of human lives is of vital importance, and the comprehensive development of agriculture plays a key role in averting these problems.
