Özet (EN)

Zümre Yalçınkaya Jacquelet, An Analysis of Couples' Emotional Intelligence Skills from a Social Work Perspective: A Psychoeducational Model Proposal, Başkent University, Institute of Social Sciences, Master's Program in Social Work, 2025. This study explores how emotional intelligence plays a role in the relationships of married couples. The research is based on a qualitative design and includes semi-structured interviews with 10 couples in their first marriage. The data were analyzed through thematic analysis. The study aims to understand how emotional awareness, empathy, emotion regulation, and social skills are experienced in daily marital life. The findings suggest that when partners notice emotional needs, express their feelings, and show empathy, their relationships tend to grow stronger. Emotional awareness and regulation helped couples manage conflict more calmly. Over time, mutual understanding and social skills improved, and emotional intelligence was found to support the ongoing quality of the relationship. Based on the couple experiences, a simple model was developed. It focuses on noticing emotions, building empathy, handling emotions, and improving communication. The model offers a grounded perspective that social workers can use when working with couples. Keywords: Emotional ıntelligence, couple relationships, social work, psychoeducation model, marital adjustment
