Women in Ci̇han Aktaş's short stories

Cihan Aktaş has published ten story books in total since her first story book Üç İhtilal Çocuğu published in 1991. Among almost all of these books, women issues in modern times have been discussed and narrated. The protagonists in her stories have been varied in terms of their ages, marital status, educational background and occupation. Nearly all of the main characters in these stories are women. In Cihan Aktaş's stories, modern life has been one of the most crucial reasons for issues of women that come from different backgrounds. These issues have been problematized in these stories. The common concept that connects these characters is "uneasiness." It is obvious that Cihan Aktaş makes a great difference among Muslim conservative women writers in Turkish literature in terms of her perspective on the main characters and the problems in her stories. In this thesis, Cihan Aktaş's published stories in ten books have been analyzed thematically. Main characters have been examined in terms of the causes of their uneasiness and how they strugge aganist this uneasiness in modern life.
