Abstract (EN)

Village Institutes, which is one of the most important initiatives of the Republic of Turkey in education, occupy an important role in the Turkish education system in terms of the time period they were established and the missions they had. However, despite the fact that this education initiative was terminated in fourteen years, which can be considered as short-lived in terms of education history, it is remarkable that its effects continue even today. In this study, Kars-Cilavuz Village Institute, one of the Village Institutes established in Anatolia ,is examined. This thesis consists of six chapters. In the first chapter, the purpose, the method, the importance, the limitations and definitions of the study are identified. In the second chapter, a brief information about the general education system and the situation of schooling in Turkey, in the first years of the young Republic is given. In the third chapter, by giving information about the Educator Schools, which can be considered as the trial phase of the Village Institutes, and the legal process of these schools, Village Institutes project is examined In the fourth chapter, information is given about the establishment of the Village Institutes, the curriculum, the course contents, and the daily life and activities in these schools, the negative criticisms directed at the school and the termination of the Village Institute project. In the fifth chapter, information is given about the physical conditions of the Susuz district of Kars-Cilavuz Village Institute, the establishment process of the Cilavuz Village Institute, the activities of the school and the change of the school until today ,after the closure of the Village Institutes.
