Access to adequate housing problem of trans women in the context of gender discrimination: The case of Bornova streets in Izmir

This thesis examines the challenges and housing problems faced by one of the most disadvantaged groups exposed to gender discrimination, trans women, in their daily lives. The study focuses on the violations of housing rights and the experiences of discrimination encountered by trans women in İzmir's Bornova Street. The aim of the study is to make visible the gender discrimination faced by trans women and to deeply examine the relationship between this discrimination and housing insecurity. The research is conducted within the framework of feminist methodology. Feminist methodology goes beyond scientific objectivity, centering the experiences and voices of the subjects. This study adopts the feminist standpoint theory, aiming to highlight the lived experiences of trans women and the systematic discrimination they face. Feminist standpoint theory emphasizes the importance of subjective experiences in knowledge production and demands social change from a social justice perspective. In this context, the in-depth interviews conducted in İzmir's Bornova Street reveal the extent of the rights violations and discrimination experienced by trans women. Bornova Street was chosen because it is an area where trans women have long been present and have been severely subjected to rights violations as part of ongoing gentrification projects. This study not only aims to contribute to the literature but also to highlight the rights violations experienced by trans women and demand concrete changes. Given the scarcity of research on trans individuals within the field of gender studies in Turkey, this thesis is unique and makes a significant contribution to the struggle for gender equality.
