Development of timber quality and strength class optimization model for CLT production

Abstract (EN)

Within the scope of the study, timber of spruce and alder species were used as tree species. The timbers were tested with damaged methods according to TS EN 384+A2 standard and with non-damaged test methods in accordance with the study purpose. The supplied timber was classified according to TS EN 338 standard. 60 CLT panels with dimensions of 120-240x240x7,5cm were produced using classified timbers. The technological properties of the CLT panels produced have been tested according to TS EN 408+A1 and ASTM E 72 standards. Structurally tested CLT walls were modeled using the SAP 2000 program. With the experimental studies carried out, the results of the finite element models and experimental modal analysis made in the SAP 2000 program were found to be compatible with each other. In addition, an optimization model was established with ANN to reveal the optimum timber quality and resistance class for CLT production. With this study, a model revealing optimum production conditions on a material basis for domestic CLT production was created and made available to the relevant industry and academic stakeholders. For future studies, it is recommended to build a high-rise CLT wooden structure on a one-to-one scale and determine its performance during earthquakes and fires, in the light of the data obtained from this study.
