Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to determine the effect of parental attitude on the child's toilet training process. The cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in a State Hospital in Bursa between September 2019 and February 2020. The number of participants to be included in the study was determined as 200 for the effect size of the study in the sample of 0.20, 80% power and 5% significance level. Questionnaires questioning the toilet training process of their children were applied face-to-face to parents with children aged 4-6 years who applied to pediatric outpatient clinics. "Parental Attitude Scale" and "Toilet Training Application Form" were used in data collection. SPSS 23.0 was used for statistical analysis of the data. Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis test was used for data that did not show normal distribution, and Bonferroni test was used in case of significance. Pearson Chi-square, Fisher-Freeman-Halton and Fisher's Exact Chi-square tests were used for categorical data, Spearman correlation coefficient was used for the relationships between variables.The significance level was determined as p<0.05. In the study, the general sum of the parents' attitude scale scores (131.92 ± 14.99) and the subscales of democratic attitude (35.30 ± 16.87), authoritarian attitude (41.35 ± 10.32), overprotective attitude (22.26) ± 6.49), permissive attitude (33.00 ± 8.54) was detected. The total Cronbach alpha value of the scale was found to be 0.845. It was determined that the parents of girls adopted the democratic attitude more. While your authoritarian attitude shortens the toilet training period; permissive attitude found to prolong time (p<0,05). In the study, it was determined that boys gained stool and urine control earlier (p<0,05). Toilet training period of children; It was found that it differed according to the age of the person responsible for toilet training, the status of toilet training and training on this subject before, and the difficulty in toilet training. Based on the conclusion that exhibiting an authoritarian attitude during toilet training shortens the toilet training period; Pediatric nurses should inform parents that toilet training should be given within a certain time frame and within the framework of the rules.
