Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted as a descriptive study to determine the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of parents of children who applied to the pediatric emergency department with a diagnosis of febrile convulsion (FK). It was conducted between May 2022 and October 2022 in the pediatric emergency department of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Training and Research Hospital, affiliated with the Rize Provincial Health Directorate. The sample population for the research was calculated using the known sampling method. The sample consisted of 92 parents who applied to the pediatric emergency department of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Training and Research Hospital with a diagnosis of FC. Data were collected using a survey form prepared by the researcher. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 statistical program. Mean, standard deviation, and percentage distributions were used to evaluate the data. It was determined that 83.7% of the parents were mothers. It was determined that the average age of mothers was 35.4±6.5 and that of fathers was 32.6±5.6. It was determined that 37.6% of the mothers were university graduates and 66.2% were housewives. It was determined that the average age of the children in the study was 30.0±18 months, and 63.0% of them were male. It was determined that 87.0% of the parents had heard of FC before, and 61.9% of them stated that FC was a life-threatening disease that caused permanent damage. It was found that 96.7% of the parents stated that they would pay more attention and care to their child who had FC, and 76.1% stated that their children could experience FC again. It was determined that during their child's first FC seizure, 78.3% of the parents immediately took their children to the emergency room, and 75.0% doused them with water. It was determined that 63.8% of the practices performed by parents at home before coming to the emergency room were dousing with water, 13.1% giving antipyretics. It was determined that most of the parents knew FC as a seizure that was life-threatening and caused a permanent disease, that they would pay more attention and care to their child who had FC, that they did not know the practices to be performed during FC, and that they wanted to receive training on FC.
