Perception of family functionality and social support in adolescents with a history of substance use in child support centers

It is observed that research on children with a history of substance use under protection and care in institutional care is limited. For this reason, it is important to evaluate the adolescent with a history of substance use in terms of family functions and social support, in order to improve the psychosocial support service provided. This study was conducted to investigate the perceived family functionality and social support levels of adolescents between the ages of 13-18, who are under protection and care at the Child Support Center, and who have a history of substance use. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the importance of the support of the family and social environment in terms of understanding the treatment and rehabilitation process of the substance addicted adolescent with the studies carried out in this process. In addition, it is important in terms of contributing to the studies to be carried out on the development of protective and preventive social work interventions, including the family and the social environment, within the scope of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation studies related to the substance use of adolescents. The sample of the research; Adolescents between the ages of 13-18 with a history of substance use who are under protection and care in the Child Support Centers affiliated to the Provincial Directorates of Family and Social Services in Adana, Antalya, Bursa, İzmir, Gaziantep, Diyarbakır, İstanbul and Manisa. As a result of the findings; It has been observed that adolescents with substance use who are under protection and care in the Child Support Center both perceive their family functions as unhealthy and the social support they perceive from family, friends and special people is not high. The regression model established to examine the effect of the family rating scale on the multidimensional perceived social support scale was found to be statistically significant (F=6.015, p<0.05). According to the results of the analysis, it was determined that the family rating scale affected the multidimensional perceived social support scale negatively (β = -0.240). 0.058 of the multidimensional perceived social support scale change is explained by the family rating scale.
