Abstract (EN)

This research is planned to find the effects of smoking on nurses, who have children, in addition to their job life and normal health anxiety.This research was conducted betwen 25.02.2008-25.04.2008 on Afyon Kocatepe University Ahmet Necdet Sezer research and aplication hospital, Afyon State Hospital and Zübeyde Hanım Maternity and Children?s Hospital.For collecting data, questionnaire and scales [of State Anxiety Scale (STAI I), Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI II), Beck Depression Scale, Family Assessment Scale, SF-36 Quality of Life Scale] which are prepared by researcher, are used.For evaluating the data, percentages, chi-square analysis, variance analysis, correlation analysis, significance test of the difference between two averages are used.From evaluation of data, the following results were obtained. The average age of nurses were found to be 29.95±5.98, between the nurses who have children and who haven?t got children the statistical differences were found in education status, working hours, marital status, duration of smoking and health problems.In the case of nurses who have not got children and smoking habit, have high anxiety scores. In the case of nurses who have children and smoking habit, have mood disorder and their beck depression scores were determined to be higher.As a result, whether having children or not doesn?t affect smoking habit of nurses. But the people who have high anxiety, have more smoking habits and it is found that their family life is going to be unhealty.Key Words: Nurse, Anxiety, Depression, Quality of Life, Family Assessment
