An applied approach in connection with the children's literature in The Turkish as foreign language training for children

In this study it has been researched how the children's literature can be used in the Turkish as foreign language training at children in primary-school-age. In this connection it was very essential to know the progressive traits of the children in accordance to know the children, who are the target group of the foreign language training in Turkish, so at the first step in this study the cognitive, linguistic, personal and social development of the children between 7-12 ages have been researched. Afterwards the peculiarities of the children's literature have been examined concerning the potentials of the children's literature in the foreign language training of children; because application studies for children's stories and poems have been developed, especially the peculiarities of these two literature types have been specified in this study. The criteria in connection with the selection of the texts to be used in the language training has been determined and the contents, the topics, the subjects of the textbooks, which are being used in the Turkish language training of children, whose native language isn't Turkish have been researched in relation to the vocabulary and grammar to be used as a pathfinder for the determination of the materials to be used in the study. Additionally the peculiarities of the children's literature have been grouped in accordance to the linguistic, cognitive and social-personal development of the children and a table has been created for the skill acquirements. On the application part; one children's poem and one children's story have been resolved in connection with especially the development fields of the child, the acquirements in the foreign language training on level A1 and A2 and the literary peculiarities of the texts and on the end activity proposals with the aim to support the linguistic development of the children during their foreign language training in Turkish have been made.
