Predecessors and successors of digital addiction in children: A metasynthesis study

Abstract (EN)

Objective: In this study, it is aimed to reveal the factorc affecting digital addiction and the successors of digital addiction in a thematic way based on previous research results. Material and Method: Metasynthesis method was used in this research, which deals with the antecedents and successors of digital addicion. Previous studies on digital addiction were reached by scanning the databases of YÖK National Thesis Center, Google Scholar and Dergipark. While scanning, the keywords digital addiction, smartphone addiction, internet addiction, social media addiction, digital game addiction, television addiction were used. As a result of the search, a total of 479 studies, including 230 master's theses, doctoral theses and 249 articles, were reached. As a result of the evaluation made within the framework of inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 258 studies, 178 theses and 80 articles, were included in the research. Results: In this study, the antecedents that push children to digital addiction were determined as family, environment, personal factors, purpose and style of use, school variable, other addictions, digital devices, digital applications, home environment, social network and time for different activities; The results of digital addiction in children were found to be relations with the environment and family, healty, psychological factors, school life, frequency of access to digital tools and networks and cyberbullying. Conclusion: The antecedents of digital addiction are grouped under the themes of family, environment, personal, purpose and form of use, school variable, other addictions, digital devices, digital applications, home environment, social network, spending time for different activities; It has been concluded that the successors of digital addiction are grouped under the themes of relations with the environment and family, healty, psychological factors, school life, frequency of access to digital tools and network and cyberbullying.
