Retrospective investigation of the efficiency of different imaging methods in the evaluation of impacted canine teeth in children

Abstract (EN)

Compared to other teeth, it has the longest growth period, the most superior development area and the most difficult eruption path. Therefore, canine teeth are the most frequently impacted teeth after mandibular third molars. The aim of this study is to examine in detail the localization of the impacted maxillary canine teeth, possible root resorption that may occur in adjacent incisors, the presence of dilaceration, its relationship with neighboring anatomical structures and teeth, and to evaluate the root resorption caused by the impacted canine tooth in children aged 8-16 years. In order to reduce the need for additional CBCT, the panoramic radiographic images and CBCT images are compared to create a prediction model. Panoramic and CBCT images of 60 maxillary impacted canine teeth were compared in terms of sector localization, labiopalatinal position, alpha, beta and gamma angle, vertical distance to the occlusal plane, presence of dilaceration and resorption. At the end of the study, root resorption was found 2.5 times more in girls than in boys. A high correlation was found between the contact relationship between the impacted maxillary canine and adjacent incisors and the resorption seen in the incisors. A significant difference was found between the two methods in the diagnosis of dilaceration and the presence of gamma angle and resorption. In cases where the gamma angle is less than 45.5 degrees in panoramic radiography, additional CBCT is required due to the increased possibility of root resorption in adjacent incisors.
