Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this in-vitro study was to investigate the remineralization efficiency of NaF-containing 'Sensodyne Promine', CPP-ACP-containing 'GC Tooth Mousse' and natural-containing 'Agarta' toothpastes against initial caries and erosion by micro-CT and SEM. Materials and Methods: 45-third molar for micro-CT and 7-third molar for SEM were used. After initial scan (T1), artificial initial caries lesions were created with pH cycle and artificial erosion lesions were created with orange juice and cola for 7 days. The second scan (T2) was performed after demineralization. Toothpastes were applied with soft-tipped brushes for 2 minutes twice a day for 15 days, and then the third scan (T3) was performed. Mineral density, surface area, lesion volume and depth were calculated with micro-CT. Changes in the surface morphology of the teeth were examined by SEM. Statistical analysis of the obtained data were made. Results: There were statistically significant increased the mineral density in all pastes, while decreasing of the surface area, lesion volume and depth (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference among the groups in remineralization efficiency (p>0.05). A statistically significant difference was found among the groups in the mineral density of the tissue that increased after remineralization (NaF>CPP-AC>Agarta; p<0.05). Conclusion: Regular brushing with easily accessible toothpastes can improve initial caries and initial erosion lesions. In addition to the remineralization effect of fluoride, CPP-ACP, more Micro-CT and SEM studies are needed to evaluate the remineralization efficiency of toothpaste containing propolis or aloe vera as an alternative to these pastes.
