Abstract (EN)

The research was conducted methodologically with the aim of developing a valid and reliable measurement tool to determine nurses' knowledge and awareness about child medical neglect. The sample of the study consisted of nurses (300 for exploratory factor analysis, 200 for confirmatory factor analysis and 30 for test-retest) who provide services to pediatric patients at the university hospital in Trabzon. Data were collected with the Personal Information Form and Medical Neglect Scale, The surface and content validity of the scale were ensured and the content validity index was determined as 0.85. It has been determined that it conforms to normal distribution. Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin value was 0.825, Bartlett test was X2=4254.007, p=0.000<0.05 and anti-image values were found to be between 0.681 and 0.914. As a result of explanatory factor analysis, the scale consists of 25 items and 6 sub-dimensions with factor loadings ranging from 0.559 to 0.974. As a result of the first level confirmatory factor analysis, the fit indices were; X2/Sd=1.516, RMSEA=0.051, CFI=0.953, NFI=0.901, GFI=0.911, AGFI=0.863 and as a result of the second level confirmatory factor analysis, the fit indices were determined as X2/Sd=1.544, RMSEA=0.052, CFI=0.938, NFI=0.911, GFI=0.916 and AGFI=0.872. These results confirmed the structure of the scale shaped by explanatory factor analysis. After exploratory factor analysis, Guttman Split-Half value is 0.923, Spearman-Brown value is 0.924 and Cronbach Alpha value is 0.881 and after confirmatory factor analysis, Guttman Split-Half value is 0.917, Spearman-Brown value is 0.918 and Cronbach Alpha value is 0.882. The item-total correlation values of both samples were within the appropriate range and the reliability of the scale was supported by all these values. Test-retest results r=0.987; p<0.001, t=0.460; p>0.05 and ICC value was found to be 0.933, and the scale's invariance over time was determined. As a result, the Medical Neglect Scale can be used as a valid and reliable measurement tool to determine nurses' knowledge and awareness levels about the child's medical neglect.
