Abstract (EN)

Child abuse is a social problem that continues from the past to the present. Abuse affects the child mentally as well as physically. Childhood attachment patterns are an important factor in shaping the interaction with the figures to which a person will be attached. It is thought that an individual's exposure to trauma in childhood affects the formation of attachment behaviors towards God in adulthood. The purpose of this research is to question if the traumatic experiences that adults remember from their childhood related to their level of attachment to God in adulthood or not. In addition, it is to examine whether there is a relationship or differentiation between the main variables of the research (traumatic experiences, adult attachment styles, God attachment styles) according to demographic variables (age, gender, educational status). The population of the research consists of young adults between the ages of 18-35 living in Turkey. The research sample consists of 411 people. The scales used in the research were transferred to the internet and shared with the participants online. In the research, 'Childhood Abuse Experiences Scale', which was created by Bernstein et al. in 1994 and its Turkish adapted by Aslan and Alparslan in 1999, was used in the study. In addition 'Three-Dimensional Adult Attachment Styles Scale' which was created by Erzen in 2016. Finally the 'Attachment to God Inventory', which was created Beck et al. in 2005 and adapted into Turkish by Subaşı in 2012, was used. As a result of the study, a statistically significant negative relationship was found between childhood traumatic experiences and attachment styles to God. The level of childhood traumatic experiences, adult attachment styles and God attachment styles show statistically significant differences according to demographic variables. The results are given in detail in the findings section.
