Abstract (EN)

In this research, the flood potential of the Şuhut basin was investigated based on the flood that occurred on March 28, 2015 in the Şuhut district of Afyonkarahisar province in the Inner Aegean Region of Turkey and the surrounding settlements. The study area and geomorphological features were defined by going to the Şuhut basin, observing the flooded areas on site, and working with the ArcGIS program operating with the Geographical Information System (GIS) base. The Şuhut basin is divided into three parts and it is planned to make more precise calculations in the areas where the flood effect is seen. Synthetic unit hydrographs were created in the determined basins in line with these data. By using the precipitation data obtained by remote sensing (RS) methods, the amount of precipitation falling in the basin was calculated. As a result of the calculations, surface seepage, water accumulation values, synthetic unit hydrographs, precipitation amounts and possible flood hydrographs were created. The map information of the basin determined in the ArcGIS program was transferred to the HEC-RAS program, and the effects of possible flood flows on the settlements in the basin were observed. The results of the study were compared with the overflow maps obtained with the help of the HECRAS program and photographs taken in the areas of the outflow on March 28, 2015.
