Multipurpose design and design of the building of the building of hotel: Gaziantep Teymur Continental Hotel example

This paper aims to study the problems and solutions which were experienced during the refunctioning of a multi-purpose building into a hotel structure. Within this framework, the concepts of function, refunctioning, accommodation and hotel are defined; the functional structure, spatial and formal organization of the hotel structure are studied and analyzed; the requirements for refunctioning the current structure are studied, allowing us to evaluate the problems and solutions clearly. In addition to analysis of the hotel structure, the areas of Gaziantep which affect tourism are examined; and the hotels which are currently located in Gaziantep are also evaluated. Drawing on from the current usage of Gaziantep Teymur Continental Hotel and its first drafted recommendation project, the refunctioning of a multi-purpose design building, whose load-bearing system was completed, is examined and analyzed. The problems experienced by the currently used building due to refunctioning and the refunctioned building's suitability to its new function are examined. Specifically, for the example of Gaziantep Teymur Continental Hotel, the refunctioned building is overall operating in accordance with its new function. In this sense, the examined building can set an example for buildings that will be refunctioned. However, the problems in this studied example should be taken into consideration with a more detailed investigation for newly constructed buildings.
