Investigation of PAPR reduction techniques in multi-carri̇er communication systems

Abstract (EN)

High peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) is one of the biggest disadvantages of wireless communications used today. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system that accepted by many standards, also has this disadvantage. In the literature, many techniques such as amplitude clipping and filtering, partial transmission array (PTS) techniques have been proposed to reduce PAPR values of these OFDM communication systems. In this thesis, amplitude clipping (AC) and PTS techniques are examined. Combining PTS technique and AC technique for solving to the PAPR disadvantage of multi-carrier communication systems and implementation to suggested next generation waveforms is suggested for the first time in the literature in this thesis work. The suggested technique has been implemented to the next generation waveforms such as Zero-Tail Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (ZT DFT-s OFDM), Zero Tail Discrete Cosine Transform spread OFDM (ZT DCT-s OFDM), Zero Tail Discrete Sine Transform spread OFDM (ZT DST-s OFDM) presented as an alternative to OFDM in the literature and the results have been obtained. To verify the achievement of the suggested PTS-AC technique over the bit error rate (BER) and PAPR performance criteria, computer simulation studies have been executed. From the acquired outcomes, it shows the suggested technique provides nearly 6 dB of PAPR improvement over the original versions of the waveforms without sacrificing BER performance.
