Abstract (EN)
This thesis study was inspired by the effects of fluid mechanics applications on many areas of life. In the field of fluid mechanics, studies on the flow properties around cylindrical, circular, square, triangular, elliptical and blunt cross-sections have been widely carried out. Examining the flow characteristics on the fluid as a result of fluid-structure interactions provides convenience in many areas of life such as airplanes, cars, ships, and submarines. Aerodynamic and hydrodynamic effects that may occur on geometries can be minimized by these studies. Torpedoes, submarines and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) have to reach their targets with limited energy stored while moving underwater. It is very important to know and control the flow properties such as reduction of drift resistance, flow separations, eddy scattering and turbulence effects in order to achieve the determined target. In this thesis, the flow characteristics of autonomous underwater vehicles with torpedo-like geometry in tandem order and around the model in two different nose structures were experimentally investigated. The flow interactions of the geometries placed in tandem order at the distance ratio of 0≤G/L≤0.6 in Reynolds 20000 increased as the distance gaps increased. It has been observed that the physical differences in the elliptical and blunt nose structures affect the flow.
