The comparison of milliyet.com news site and bianet.org news site upon Gezi Park movements in terms of social aggression

"Web 2.0" technology has changed our lives with serving us a new phenomenon called "social media." In fact, technological determinists such as Weber, McLuhan or Baudrillard has already suggested this mindset with their claim that technology changes the way of living through creating a global village. They championed this ideology long before the identification of Web 2.0 and social media and today, we are all witnessing the accuracy of their theorems. With the beginning of the 21st century, the discontent of Middle Eastern citizens against their governance styles has been turned into social movements. As a domino game, Middle Eastern countries felt the wind of these social movements under the title of "Arab Spring". Apart from Middle Eastern countries, Turkey has been ruled by a secular democratic republic and Turkey has been shown as a role model for Islamic countries as an example of peaceful governance. However, Gezi Park Movements that started at the end of May, 2013 showed that there has been discontent among Turkish citizens also. The Movement was begun upon the attempt of officials to cut down trees in Gezi Park despite a group of people who were objecting. The protests which were initiated by a few people spread over Turkey with changing dimension of events from protecting nature to protecting life-style and became politicized. Gezi Park Movements has affected Turkey from different points; Turkish citizens have witnessed violence and how it affects people both individually and societally. Another issue that Turkish citizens have witnessed was the ignorance of media foundations of these events. Cooperated news agencies, television (TV) channels and newspapers gave less space to Gezi Park Movements than they needed to; so social media and online news agencies shouldered the weight of all media to inform public. Accordingly, this study has been structured to find out how an online news site that belongs to a media foundation and the other online news site that has no bounds with any media foundation affect social aggression through their way of representing news of Gezi Park Movement. The findings of this study carries the characteristics to be a guide to help media professionals to see the importance of informing public and the negative effects of misinforming or not informing people can end with social aggression.
