Abstract (EN)

Employees dealing with haircuts, dyeing, permanent straightening, perms, hair removal, manicures and pedicures in hairdressers, barbers and beauty centers will inevitably infect themselves and their customers with many diseases through contact, respiration, or blood if they do not pay attention to hygiene. This study was carried out in order to reveal the occupational hygiene problems and to reveal the knowledge level of the employees on this subject by applying a questionnaire consisting of twenty-five questions to the employees of hairdressers, barbers and beauty centers. The universe we use in this research is hairdressers, barbers and beauty centers in the central district of Çorum province in 2021; The sample consists of a total of 209 people working in the hairdresser, barber and beauty center selected randomly within the determined universe. According to the results of the survey, while male participants participated in the rate of 80.86%, female participants participated in the rate of 19.14%. The sample consists of 3.3% under the age of 20, 51.7% between the ages of 21-30, 40.2% between the ages of 31-40, 2.4% between the ages of 41-50, 2.4% between the ages of 51 and above. Education levels are primary education and below 52.2%, secondary education and above education level 47.8%. The highest yes response rate was 98.6%, "Do you wash your hands often?" while the lowest yes response rate was 46.6% for the question "Has this profession caused you any discomfort?" When the occupational hygiene data of the participants were compared according to gender, it was found that there was a significant relationship between knowing the answer to the question "Do you regularly ventilate your workplace" and "Do you know that the materials you use such as gloves, masks, aprons are called personal protective?" When the occupational hygiene data of the participants were compared according to their age groups, a statistically significant relationship was found in knowing the answer to the question "Do you know what to do if occupational accidents such as injuries, burns, chemical poisoning occur?" When the occupational hygiene data of the participants were compared according to the education levels of the participants, a statistically significant relationship was found in the state of knowing the answer to the question "Do you know what to do if occupational accidents such as injuries, burns, chemical poisoning occur in the workplace?". According to these results, it has been seen that the majority of the employees have primary education and below education and they do not know what to do when occupational accidents (such as injury, burns, chemical poisoning) occur, what personal protection means, and the importance of ventilation. It has been observed that the rate of knowing what to do to prevent occupational accidents or after occupational accidents occur is low. It has been concluded that training should be provided for the employees in these business lines to receive training and to refresh their knowledge at regular intervals.
