Measurement of sustainable environmental efficiency in Çorum province: DEA application

Human beings have been using natural resources for centuries to meet their production and consumption needs. Especially factors such as population growth, unplanned urbanization, industrialization and rapid consumption trend brought the rapid depletion of the resources. Now, more care must be taken to protect the existing resources in the world and transfer them to future generations, and new measures must be taken to ensure environmental sustainability. In this context, measurements to be made on the axis of cities and regions gain importance in terms of predicting the future. In recent years, it has been observed that the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), which has a wide application area and is very useful in resource usage measurement, is frequently used in the literature. While the method creates a reference set for ineffective decision-making units, it also provides informative suggestions to the researcher about potential improvements. The aim of this thesis study is to provide an evaluation for Çorum province by using the DEA in measuring sustainable environmental efficiency. In this framework, an efficiency measurement was made by using criteria such as environmental expenditures, electricity, natural gas, petroleum, LPG, water, particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, waste water and solid waste in the 2008-2021 periods of Corum. In the analysis made according to Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes (CCR) and Banker, Charnes and Cooper (BCC) models regarding input and output focus, periods that disrupt the efficiency limit were determined. Accordingly, improvement suggestions and evaluations were made and the study was completed.
