Evaluation of health-related quality of celiac patients who live in Çorum: A cross-sectional study

Abstract (EN)

Purpose: In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the quality of life of celiac patients who live in Çorum, and to reveal them among their life styles, dietary compliance and socio-demographic data and health-related quality of life. Thus, contribution will be made to the data of celiac disease for first, second and third-line health services. Material and Methods: The participants of our study were chosen beautifully from the patients with celiac diagnosis who applied to the Çorum Celiac Association. Patients aged 18-65 years without cancer diagnosis were included in our study. Patients under the age of 18, over 65, with mental retardation were excluded from the study. Our research was carried out by taking written and verbal consent from 54 patients who were admitted to Corum Celiac Assosation. Celiac Disease Questionnaire (CDQ) was applied to the patients with the form socio-demographic data by face-to-face interview technique. Results: A total of 54 patients participated in our study. The mean age of the patients was 37.41±12.24, and the mean BMI was 24.7±5.2. 24.1% of the patients included in the study were male and 75.9% were female. Total quality of life score was calculated as 132±34.6. It was seen that the highest score of the CDQ subscales was the GI subscale and the lowest score was the emotion subscale. It was observed that the total quality of life decreased statistically significantly with increasing age (P=0.028). It was shown that the total quality of life was increased statistically significantly in single people (P=0.028). It was observed that total quality of life scores decreased statistically significantly as the number of children increased (P=0.015). It was determined that the GI subscale scores increased statistically significantly as the education level increased (P=0.036). As the age of diagnosis increased, the total quality of life scores of patients decreased statistically significantly (P=0.047). As the attention of family physicians (P=0.002) and the other physicians' (P<0.001) about writing gluten-free drugs increased, total quality of life scores were shown to increase statistically significantly. x Conclusion: Celiac disease is a disease that is difficult to be suspected, diagnose and treat. To care about the quality of life of these patients by physicians and especially family physicians; features need to increase well-being, family well-being and workforce.
